George Gribble

George Kenneth “Sonny” Gribble Jr. entered his heavenly home at 7:44 a.m., Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, surrounded by his family after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 28, 1950, in Morgantown, a son of the late George Kenneth Gribble Sr. and Mildred Lucille Doman. He attended Rowlesburg High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1975-81. Sonny worked numerous jobs in his lifetime and was a perfectionist at all of them. He retired as a meat cutter/butcher from Bells Market.

Surviving is his wife, Shirley Gene Himelrick, whom he married on Aug. 30, 1968. Also surviving are two daughters, Sherri and husband Warren Whyel, of Blacksville, and Shelly and husband Lou Spitznogle, of Blacksville; three grandchildren, Codi Whyel, Brandon and wife Lindsay Wilson and Cory and wife Anna Whyel; three great-grandchildren, Coen Wilson, Cayde Whyel and Mali Wilson; his special fur buddy, Willy; two sisters, June and husband Vernon Baker and Rose and husband Max Goff; two brothers Bob and wife Becky Gribble and Bill Gribble; two brothers-in-law, George Burris and Delbert Shaffer; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his parents are two sisters, Bonnie Shaffer and Patty Burris; and several nieces and nephews. Sonny will be tremendously missed by all who knew him, especially his family.
