Daniel “Danny” M. Copeland Sr., 75, went in glory to the presence of God from his home of 47 years in MacDale at 2:17 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, 2023. He was born July 28, 1947, at home in Spraggs, Pa., a son of the late John Max Copeland and Laura Dale Copeland.
While working as a foreman of Blacksville #2 Coal Mine and supporting his wife and children, he decided to attend Monongalia County Technical Education Center and obtain his high school diploma. He proudly received his diploma in 1989. Danny was the co-founder of the Blacksville Little and Blacksville Pony Baseball League, where he coached for nine years. He was a deacon of the Blacksville Baptist Church, President of the Blacksville Cemetery Association, and a 25 year member of the American Radio League; using the radio handle KC8GOI. He enjoyed swimming at his pool, where he proudly taught his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids to swim. He loved attending Clay-Battelle football games, fishing and spending time with his family. He retired from Consolidation Coal Company’s Blacksville #2 Coal Mine.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie Yost Copeland whom he married on June 24, 1967; his sweetheart since she was 14 and him 16 years of age; one son, Daniel M. Copeland Jr. and wife Jackie, of Murrells-Inlet, S.C.; and one daughter, Dana M. Parrish and husband Rodney, of Wana. He was known as the “World’s Greatest Pappy” since Jan. 1, 1990 and is survived by eight grandchildren: Brandi Copeland, Samantha Earl, Travis Copeland, Cara Parrish, Marina Fox, Dixie Parrish and Abby Parrish; six great-grandchildren: Cameron Cooley, Raylyn Cooley, Oaklee Copeland, Brantley Fox, Tobe Fox and Marin Fox; and one brother: Jimmy Copeland. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Timothy Parrish; four brothers, Bob, Enoch, John and Raymond Copeland; and one sister, Ruby Simpson.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation or services. Danny will be laid to rest at a private ceremony at a later date. Milliken and Throckmorton FH, Inc. Daryl L.
