George Wolfe

George Junior Wolfe, 85, of Fellowsville, Marquess Community passed away on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at home. He was born near Fellowsville on Sept. 1, 1937, son of the late George Henry and Marietta (Parks) Wolfe.

George graduated from Fellowsville High School, Class of 1956. He was a founding member of the Mountaineer Ambulance Service. George was a 54-year member of the Fellowsville Volunteer Fire Department, serving as safety officer, assistant chief and chief. He taught fire prevention and safety to the students at Fellowsville Elementary School each year. George was Preston County’s King Fireman XLII in 1989. He served many years on the Preston County 911 Advisory Board. George was a member and trustee of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. He was a retired school bus mechanic for Preston County Schools. George was a United States Army Veteran who served in Alaska. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family.

George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sherley (Pierce) Wolfe; two sons, Clinton “J.R.” George Wolfe and Lynn and Harold Richard Wolfe and Jana; seven grandchildren, Kristen Shade and Chad, Ashlee Zinn and Dave, Jeremy Nieusma and Kat, Alexis Wolfe, Maryann Wolfe, Wyatt Wolfe and Remington Wolfe; eight great-grandchildren, Valory, Arabella, Xavier, Madechai, Ava, Claire, Serenity and Hope; three step-grandchildren, Chris, Tom and Erika, along with several step-great and great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Devera Wolfe and Dortha Wolfe.

Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave., Newburg, from noon-8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, and at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, with Pastor Larry Scott Cress and Pastor David Murray officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Zion Cemetery where full military honorswill be accorded by the Preston County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fellowsville Volunteer Fire Department, 18 Fire Department Loop, Tunnelton, WV 26444 or Mount Zion United Methodist Church, 158 Runner Cut Road, Tunnelton, WV 26444.
