Fred Pirlo

Fred Richard Pirlo, 85, of Morgantown, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, with the love of his life by his side. He was born on March 26, 1937, in Greer, a son of the late Francisco (Frank) and Minnie Pirlo.

Fred was always a hard worker who provided for his family. He worked at various places and retired from Greer Limestone, where he was nicknamed “Hungry” because of all the hours he worked.

Fred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Florence Garletts Pirlo; his son, Rick Pirlo and daughter-in-law Doris; his daughter, Penny Thomas and son-in-law Rich; son-in-law, Jimmy Hall; siblings, Louie Pirlo and Diana Martin Hayes; a slew of granddaughters: Holly Riggle, Crystal Wolford, Heidi Triplett, Faith Pirlo DiBiase, Sarah Pirlo, Brittany Robinette and Kylee Thomas; and many great-grandchildren, along with numerous other cherished family members.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debbie Hall; one son, Frankie Pirlo; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Wolford and Eliana Riggle; siblings, Tony Pirlo, Pete Pirlo, Choppy Pirlo, Jean Sylvester, Linda Quince and Shirley Dibell; and other special loved ones.

Fred will be remembered for his great, ornery sense of humor, a love of candy, fruit cake and sweets, an addiction to coffee that had to be warmed in the microwave and his opinions on how everyone else should do things, such as cooking for him.

The family would like to express their appreciation of the wonderful care Fred received during his last years while he was bedridden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Nicholson Chapel Cemetery Association, 1326 Summer School Road, Morgantown, WV 26508.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Fred Jenkins Funeral Home, from 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Pastor Joe Peters officiating. Fred will be laid to rest at Nicholson Chapel Cemetery.
