CrossFit Morgantown will launch nonprofit as part of third annual Giosi WOD

MORGANTOWN — Forgiven Warrior.

The words were dear to Jeff Giosi. So much so he had them permanently inked into his skin.

The owner and operator of CrossFit Morgantown, Giosi was 40 years old in January 2021 when he died unexpectedly of an unknown genetic aortic aneurysm while at the gym.

Much like those two words tattooed on his body, his life left an indelible mark on his community and serves as the inspiration for Forgiven Warrior, a newly formed nonprofit aimed at promoting and supporting holistic wellness in north-central West Virginia.

The organization will get its official unveiling Saturday during the third-annual Giosi Memorial WOD, or workout of the day, fundraiser at CrossFit Morgantown.

Sarah Giosi said all proceeds will benefit the nonprofit inspired by her late husband.

“We’re looking at how we can take our community here in north-central West Virginia and start to break some of the cycles of sickness that we have here, and doing that by focusing on community leaders and leaders of nonprofits and families to help make them healthier,” she said.

“We are not interested in duplicating services. We’re really interested in looking at what’s here and helping to further build it up or help fill in gaps.”

As for Saturday’s workout, Giosi said there will be a brief presentation recognizing the launch of the nonprofit at 9 a.m. She anticipates some 300 people will cycle through the workout in the course of the day.

“As of this morning, there were over 40 gyms across the country planning to participate. We have three gyms internationally that are participating, including one in Dubai,” she said. “That’s really cool.”
