Michael D. Wilson, 63, of Morgantown, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022. He was born on March 11, 1959, in Frankfurt, Germany, the son of the late George “Bill” and Betty Wilson.
He graduated from Morgantown High School class of 1977 and from WVU in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in business
administration.
Mike loved to travel, having visited 49 states, and still talked about getting to Alaska one day. Just like his grandfather and uncle, he loved river travel and exploring navigational charts. He loved 70s music, reading and cheering on the Pirates, Steelers and Mountaineers.
Diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma in 2017 and receiving a stem cell transplant in 2018, he continued to work while taking chemo. He remained positive and hopeful, probably more for his family than for himself. He never lost his sense of humor.
He shared a close bond with his sister, Lisa, always the protective big brother. He was never one to spend much time on the phone, but after his illness, it wasn’t unusual for them to talk 1-2 hours nightly, talking about memories of their wonderful childhood, stories of family and friends and how they would solve the problems of the world.
Probably one of his greatest joys was watching his niece, Colleen, grow up. She loved to read from a very young age and he would buy her some of his favorite childhood books. He was so proud of her drive and determination to work on achieving her life goals. The last thing he heard about her is that she is officially a senior at WVU.
He was preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents Anna and Everett Everly, paternal grandparents Milt and Leona Swaney, Uncle John and Aunt Elaine Everly, very special great-Aunt Helen Rogan and numerous other great-aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his sister, Lisa Christopher and niece, Colleen Christopher. He was a kind soul and will be missed dearly.
His request for cremation will be honored by his family and he will be interred next to his parents at Beverly Hills Cemetery in a private ceremony. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fred L Jenkins Funeral Home. www.fredjenkinsfuneral
