Pamela Shelton Fawley M.D.

Pamela Marian Shelton Fawley M.D., 75, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, with her son by her side. She was born July 28, 1947, in Roanoke Va., to Roy Marion and Virginia Porter Shelton.

She was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and soon after attended Roanoke College, where she majored in chemistry and graduated Summa Cum Laude. After graduation, Pamela accepted an internship at the Veterans Administration Psychiatric Hospital in Roanoke, Va., where she met and later married O.B. Fawley Jr. on July 16, 1971. Pamela and O.B. Jr. resided in Morgantown at the Dorsey Knobs Farm, which is now open to the public.

After moving to Morgantown, Pamela taught at Bruceton High School for several years. Her passion and love for the sciences and people drove her to attend West Virginia University School of Medicine. Pamela was one of the first women to graduate from the university’s medical school. She was also the first in her family to attend college. She chose to complete her residency in psychiatry under Dr. Wilford Spradlin. Following her residency, Pamela became the chief of psychiatry at Valley Community Mental Health Center in Morgantown. As a physician, she was a very caring, compassionate, considerate and selfless person who took time to get to know her patients. Pamela was a fantastic doctor and was loved by all staff and patients. She was very busy as a physician but was able to have a family.

She was the mother to Joshua Fawley, Zachary Fawley and Chauncey Fawley. She was grandmother to Braxton Fawley, Isabella Fawley and Joshua Fawley. Pamela also had a younger sister, Deborah Rogers, who she cherished along with her nephews, Bo (Randy Jr.), Justin and Nicholas. Her memory will live on as being a loving mother, caring sister, terrific daughter and so much more.

Pamela will be terribly missed and never forgotten. May she rest in peace with her sons, Chauncey and Joshua Fawley; her parents, Roy and Virginia Shelton; and watch over her surviving family. Pamela was preceded in death by her sons, Joshua S. Fawley and Chauncey B. Fawley; her parents, Roy M. Shelton and Virginia P. Shelton; and her nephew, Nicholas C. Garland.
