Larry Clyde Headley, 80, of Morgantown, passed away following an illness on Sept. 30, 2022. Larry passed peacefully in his daughter’s home in Boise, Idaho, with family at his bedside. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Helene Headley, and his two daughters, Rachel Headley (husband Chris Hill, son Oliver Headley-Hill) and Rebecca Headley (husband Kevin D’Agostino, daughter Hayden D’Agostino). He is also survived by his brother-in-law, George Schmezer, and numerous nieces and nephews in Lincoln and Logan counties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Grace Workman Headley and George Golden Headley, and his three older siblings, Virginia “Madge” Farmer, Jimmie Headley and Betty Farmer.
Larry was born on Sept. 16, 1942, in Harts. He was born in humble circumstances to a loving and hardworking family and was the youngest of four siblings. He lost his father at only 15 months of age and his mother at 17 years of age. He cherished his siblings, and his sister Betty and her husband, Clifford, were instrumental in his life following his early losses. He demonstrated a strong work ethic and great intelligence in school, which earned him an AFL-CIO scholarship to West Virginia University, where he eventually completed his Ph.D. in physics. He went on to work for the United States Department of Energy for 43 years. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He believed deeply in humility and kindness, both of which he demonstrated always. He is deeply missed by his family.
Because Larry was with family in Idaho when he passed, his family members will be planning a memorial service in the spring for loved ones in West Virginia to commemorate his wonderful life.
