Jennie L. Allen, 77, passed away peacefully Dec. 11, 2022, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood, N.H. Jennie was born on Feb. 8, 1945, in Grant Town, the youngest of five children. Her parents were Ray and Linnie Straight. She graduated from Fairview High School and went to Fairmont State College, where she earned credentials to teach high school English and English literature.
She taught at Fairview High School and North Marion High School when it first opened.
In 1968, she married Virgil Yost. Virgil passed away in 1986. In 1991, she married Charles Allen and moved to New Hampshire, where she lived until her passing.
Family members include her husband, Charles “Lee” Allen; daughter, Mary Ann Wright; grandchildren, Amy (Andrew) Wolfe and Devan (Brooke) Wright; and great-grandchildren, Mya, Maverick and Makya Wolfe.
Calling hours will be held at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason-Dixon Highway, Blacksville, from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20 with the Rev. Rose Saunders officiating.
Burial will follow at the Eddy-Chapel Cemetery at Jakes Run.
