Robert Raymond “Bob” Cockrell, 76, of Morgantown, formerly of Grafton, passed away on Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, at Mon Health Medical Center. He was born in Grafton June 30, 1946, son of the late James Raymond and Sarah Murray Cockrell, Bob is survived by his wife, Linda Peters Cockrell whom he married Sept. 23, 1967, spending over 55 years together.
Robert was a graduate of the St. Augustine Catholic School, Class of 1964, and a graduate of Salem College. He worked and retired as a director from Allegheny Power Company with over 38 years of service. As a reporter for the Grafton Sentinel on June 16, 1964, he was the first to see and report the sighting of the Grafton Monster as he traveled home on Riverside Drive. Robert enjoyed history, collecting movies and was a great Mountaineer sports fan. He loved his family unconditionally and loved every minute he spent with each of them, especially his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by two children, Kathleen Arbuthnot (David), of Morgantown, and Kelly R. Radinsky (John), of Cranberry, Pa.; five grandchildren, Emma, Brendan, Connor, Jordon and Calista; two brothers, Mark Cockrell (Debra), of Conyers, Ga., Kevin Cockrell (Wendy), of St. Louis, Mo.; mother-in-law, Kathleen Parkinson, of Grafton; and special friends, Dan Peters and Ron Peters, both of Grafton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Susan Cockrell, and father-in-law, Charles Parkinson.
The family wishes to thank the Mon County EMS, the Morgantown VFD and the Morgantown police department for their kindness, support and service shown to our family.
Family and friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave., Grafton, from 11 a.m. until the hour of the funeral at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, with Father Joseph Babu officiating.
