Harlie Ralph Lowther, 72, of Brandenburg, Ky., passed away at home on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022.
He was born on April 23, 1950 in Buckhannon, son of the late, Harlie F. Lowther and Avis Allen McCray Lowther. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Lowther, Henry Lowther, Leslie Lynn Lowther and Philip Lowther; and sisters, Mary Weaver, Macel “Jane” Buck and Mattie Almonta Markwood.
Harlie was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served on the USS Wichita, a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, member of the VFW and member of St. John the Apostle Church in Brandenburg. He loved fishing and hunting, the outdoors, yard work, flowers and landscaping. He was a great outdoorsman. When he was not outside, he loved to read. Over the years, Harlie had a lot of good friends and neighbors that were more like family. He loved Kentucky but missed his mountains and hills in West Virginia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Diane Richards Lowther; son, Stephen Thomas Lowther, of Guston, Ky.; foster daughter, Tammy Phillips, of Fairmont; sisters, Margie Gillespie and Betty Capps; brother, Obrey Lowther; sister-in-law, Debrah Ann Richards (Roger) King; and brother-in-law, Tom Richards.
A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Apostle Church in Brandenburg, Ky. with Father Toan Do officiating at 11 a.m.,, with visiting from 10-11 a.m. at the church on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20 with military honors.
The family has requested that no flowers be sent.
