Barbara Haas

Barbara Sue McDonald Haas, known to friends and family as “Susie,” went to be with our lord and savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell McDonald; her sister, Carol O’Dell McDonald Graham; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eston Myers, and her close friend, Francie Hinerman.

Susie was born June 17, 1943, in Parsons. She was the daughter of Russel Ford and Effie Marie Myers McDonald. Her family moved to Sunset Beach in Morgantown in December 1946.

Susie married her former husband, Charles Edward Haas, on July 15, 1958, and together they raised four children. As their family grew, Susie enjoyed many precious hours with her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her legacy is carried on by her daughter, Tammy Lynne Haas Areford and spouse Wesley; her daughter, Holly Areford Grubb and spouse Tyler, and children, Brynlee, Rylie and Kaysen; her son, James Elwood Haas and spouse Terri and children, Michael and spouse Dorothy, and Jeffrey and spouse Jennie and children, Meghan, Ashley and James; her daughter, Roxanna Marie Haas Gibson and spouse Richard, and sons, Ryan, Justin and spouse Haley and Joshua; her son, Charles David Haas and spouse Charlene, and daughter, Payton; and her niece, Tina McNemar and spouse Fred.

During the rearing of her children, Susie attended numerous events with her children and grandchildren: school plays, marching and concert band performances, football games, basketball games, baseball games, wrestling meets, cheerleading events, field trips, classroom parties and so much more. One of Susie’s favorite activities was baking nut rolls at Christmas with her children and grandchildren.
She was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by many adoring names; Grandma Susie, Grandma Buckie, Grammie and Grandma.

Susie’s career of choice was licensed practical nurse or LPN. She graduated from the Monongalia County Schools LPN program on Nov. 27, 1978, and went on to serve as president of The LPN Nurses Association, for which she was very honored. Later, she worked at hospitals and clinics in the Morgantown area and served as a traveling nurse for hospice patients. Susie also served as a site nurse for Bechtal Construction Company, both in Morgantown and New Jersey. After returning to Morgantown in December 1996, Susie was employed by Monongalia EMS as an administrative assistant/dispatcher, where she retired on Dec. 15, 2016, after 20 years of service. She considered the staff at EMS her extended family and loved them all.

Susie’s family would like to thank everyone who loved and helped her through good times and challenging times. She loved and appreciated each of you.

A special thank you also goes to Dr. Anthony Paravoni. Mom thought of you as a son and loved you very much.

Honoring her wishes, Susie was cremated. The internment of her ashes will be at Zion Cemetery on
Sunset Beach Road in Morgantown, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome.
