A 68-year-old man from Core was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Blue Horizon Drive in Monongalia County.
A press release authorized by Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer said deputies responded to the collision, which occurred under the I-79 overpass that runs above W.Va. 7, near the Shack Neighborhood House.
Charles Hicks, 68, of Core, was pronounced dead on the scene by Mon County EMS crews.
According to the sheriff’s release, Hicks was traveling south on W.Va. 7 in a 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a F-450 pickup traveling in the northbound lane. The F-450 belonged to an area business, but the sheriff did not identify the business or the occupants of that truck.
The condition of the driver of the F-450 was not known Friday afternoon, although according to the release, he was transported from the scene to an area hospital by Mon EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.
Palmer’s release said an accident reconstructionist from the sheriff’s office was on the scene, as well as Mon EMS, Cassville VFD, Mon County HazMat team and West Virginia Division of Highways.
What may have caused Hicks to cross the center line was not released in time for this report.
