Judy Bennett

Judy Ann Rowan Bennett, 72, of Wana, passed peacefully on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, after a 10-year battle with cancer. She fought the good fight and now rests from her labor. Judy was born in Morgantown on Feb. 5, 1950, a daughter to Godfrey E. and Julia C. Barron Rowan.

Judy was a homemaker for many years, was a member of the Mount Morris Gospel Tabernacle and had many hobbies. She and her husband James, or “Benji” as many would know him, were simply inseparable.
Together, they enjoyed traveling to Amish Country in both Sugar Creek, Ohio and Lancaster, Pa., where they visited the Sight and Sound Theater on several occasions. Judy never passed up a chance at Hershey’s Restaurant, where she was known to eat a piece of cheesecake or two.

Judy and Benji would take many long drives in the countryside, enjoying one another’s company and taking in the beautiful scenery along the way. You may be surprised to learn that Judy was not a fan of water, had quite the collection of Boyd’s Bears and enjoyed crafting ceramics. There are far too many attributes to list to capture who Judy was to her family. She loved as we should love one another. She will be missed and fondly remembered by many.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, James Allen “Benji” Bennett, of Wana; her son, James “B.J.” Bennett (Chandra), of Core; daughter, Tiffany Phillippi (Michael), of Maidsville; her loved and adored grandchildren, Trevor Bennett, Colby Chisler and Jeffrey Phillippi; and one great-grandson, due to arrive on Christmas Eve, Bentley Chisler.

Also, surviving are her sisters, Gloria Dean (Darrell), of Rowlesburg, Fern Sue Jackson, of Maidsville, Romona Thomas (Frank), of Cheat Lake; brothers, Willard Rowan (Ruth), of Maidsville, Edward Rowan (Becky), of Morgantown, Charles Rowan (Deanna), of Brookhaven, Paul Rowan (Mary), of Orient, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two twin siblings at birth, one brother, Thomas E. Rowan and her faithful Yorkshire Terrier, Lanie.

The family will gather with friends at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. on Friday with Pastor Joe Adams officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Olive Cemetery, Pentress.
