Mickiel Prendergast

Mickiel Jr. Prendergast “Pappy Mike,” 71, of Hundred, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, in the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born May 7, 1951, in Hundred, a son of the late Archie Prendergast and Virginia Gump Prendergast.

Mr. Prendergast was a retired coal miner who worked for Peabody Coal Company and retired with over 39 years of service.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening and farming.

Surviving are his wife, Thelma Long Prendergast, to whom he had been married for 52 years; children, Howard David Long (Tink), of Sandyville, Gerald Ralph Church Jr. (Wendy), of Parkersburg, Lisa Anne Church, of Core, Douglas Allen Church (Jamie), of Weston, and Amanda Marie Hunn (Tim), of Rivesville; brothers, Sherrell Prendergast (Darlene), of Hundred and Marcus Prendergast (Bev), also of Hundred; grandchildren, Stephanie Gribble, Brian Long, Lindsay Elder, Christopher Church, Jessica Jarvis, Kaylie Hegedis, Kennedy Church, Courtland Church, and Canyon Church; nine great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, who was like a son, Garold Howard Church Jr. (Lisa), of Belpre, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Marie Church, and a special niece, Martha Cork.

The family would like to give a special “Thank You” to Alan Tennant, of Pentress, Keith “Rooster” Wolfe, of Hundred, and Cadon Skavinksy for their support and friendship.

At the request of the deceased, his body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred is in charge of arrangements.
