Calvin Junior Plum, 71 of Independence, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022. He was born on Dec. 28, 1950, in Newburg, son of the late Russell E. and Eulalah M. (Carter) Plum.
He served in the United States Army from 1970-73. He then worked at various surface mines. He was employed at March-Westin for 25 years until he retired in 2017. After retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, helping others and spending time with his grandkids.
Calvin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Doris Jean (Sapp) Plum; one daughter, Christy Jo Cassady (Brian), of Tunnelton; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Riffle (Robert), of Gladesville; four granddaughters, Carly Cassady, Kylie Cassady, Paige Boyles (Joseph) and Brittney Plum (Tim Scroggs); one grandson, Cameron Lynn Cassady; three sisters, Dorothy Casteel and Bonnie Nelson, of Newburg, and Roberta Faulknier (Rick), of Morgantown; one brother, Jacob “Jack” Plum (Marty), of Tunnelton; six sisters-in-law, Betty Plum, Kathy Plum, Marcina Plum, Connie Plum, Helen Reist and Nancy Nestor (Paul); brother-in-law, Roy Sapp I (Gloria); and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by one son, Michael “Mikey” Jason Plum, in 2019; six brothers, Paul Plum (Shirley), Donald Plum, Charles “Buck” Plum, Martin Plum, Francis Plum and Johnny Plum; and two brothers-in-law, Archie Casteel and Richard Reist.
Family will receive friends from noon until the time of his celebration of life Service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, with Pastor Marty Turner officiating, where full military honors will be accorded by the Preston County and Army Honor Guard. Dress casual and wear your hats. Inurnment will be at Sapp-Weaver Cemetery at a later date.
