QB Sean Boyle commits to WVU football’s 2023 class

The West Virginia football program has their quarterback for the 2023 class. And the commitment comes from a name that isn’t necessarily new on the radar.

Charlotte (N.C.) Charlotte Catholic 2023 signal caller Sean Boyle picked the Mountaineers over a list of other scholarship offers which included Rutgers, Memphis, South Florida and interest from others.

Boyle, 6-foot-2, 179-pounds, had been committed to Charlotte for most of the recruiting process but a long-awaited scholarship offer from WVU came Oct. 19 and things intensified between the pair.

Offensive coordinator Graham Harrell served as the lead recruiter for Boyle and initially stopped in to see the quarterback prospect during the spring evaluation period.

The Rivals.com three-star prospect returned the favor with a trip to Morgantown June 16 in order to throw in front of the coaching staff. An offer didn’t come immediately from that trip, but it was clear that his performance had made an impression on Harrell.

From that point forward, Boyle was a name that was high on the board for WVU.

Once the football program parted ways with former pledge Spartanburg (S.C.) signal caller Raheim Jeter, it was only natural to assume that Boyle would move to the front of the line. And that he did.

Boyle has ties to the program considering he has family in the area and the offer from the Mountaineers is one that he had been waiting on for quite some time. Once that came, it didn’t take long for him to decide to cast his lot with the football program.

The North Carolina signal caller has a live arm and the ability to move in the pocket as well as pick up yards with his feet making him a strong fit for the offense.

As a junior, Boyle completed 52-of-90 passes for 800 yards with

7 touchdowns and two interceptions. He also compiled 179 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on the season.

Overall, Boyle becomes the lone quarterback commitment for West Virginia in the 2023 class and represents the 18th pledge to commit to the Mountaineers overall in this cycle.

The WVU recruiting class is now sitting at No. 27 nationally with several more spots to fill.
