
Roger Dale Britton, 67, of Kingwood, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born in Tunnelton, on March 27 1955. The son of the late Wilfred M. Britton and Dorotha Belle (Miller) Britton.
Roger was a 1973 graduate of Tunnelton High School, where he lettered for four straight years in basketball. He enjoyed going hunting and fishing and especially working in his garage. Spending time with his family was very important to him, being the 10th child out of 11. Roger restored his 1954 Ford pickup, loved showing it and won many awards. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Kingwood.
Roger is survived by his wife, Julie Elizabeth (Bernatowicz) Britton; two sons and spouses, Dustin Robert Britton and fiancée Brandon Teter, of Aurora, Shawn Daniel and Kylee Britton, of Germantown, Md.; daughter and spouse, Brittany Elizabeth and Steven Shaffer, of Kingwood; two brothers, Junior Frank and Mary Britton, of Tyaskin, Md., Richard Britton, of Kingwood; four sisters and spouses, Dorotha “Dot” Maxwell, of Kingwood, Karen Sue Pase, of Kingwood, Patricia and James Hahn, of Tunnelton, and Beverly and Lester Wolfe, of Tunnelton; his mother-in-law, Pauline Bernatowicz, of Kingwood; brother-in-law, Bob Matheny, of Clarksburg; sister-in-law, Betty Britton, of Tunnelton; eight grandchildren, Jathen Arnold, Aliana Arnold, Mason Britton, Hadlee Britton Sawyer Britton, Hendrix Britton, Addison Shaffer and Owen Shaffer; he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law and cousins.
As well as his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy (Layman) Britton; mother and father-in-law, Robert “Red” and Jane Layman; two brothers, Gary Britton and James Britton; two sisters, Jan Bennett and Judy Matheny; three brothers-in-law, Charlie Pace, Kenny Maxwell and Bernard Bennett; and father-in-law, Ed Bernatowicz.
Friends will be received at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 South Price St., Kingwood, from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23. A vigil service will be conducted in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Kingwood at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 24, with Father Andy Switzer as celebrant.
