MAC to host butterfly art show on Saturday

Monongalia Arts Center, 107 High St., will host Monarchs @ Mon Arts from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

This free event is for all ages and will feature a Monarch butterfly art show, hands-on art activities, a selfie station and face-painting.

Participants can also learn how to plant a pollinator garden.

Morgantown is the first city in West Virginia to be named a member of Monarch City USA.

This festival is part of Monongalia Arts Center’s (MAC) revitalization effort, currently led by the center’s board of directors.

Monarch butterflies are West Virginia’s state butterfly and were recently named an endangered species. In July, the International Union for Conservation of Nature re-classified the migratory monarch butterfly as endangered on its “red list.”

MAC, established in 1978 and located in a historic building, is a community-driven arts center in Monongalia County. The center offers a home for visual, performing and literary arts, and is committed to providing affordable access to diverse art forms through education, immersion and outreach.
