Trinity powers past Millersville (Ohio) in Mike McKenzie’s debut

MILLERSPORT, Ohio — Behind interim head coach Mike McKenzie, Trinity pulled off a sweep of Millersport (Ohio) on Friday with a 48-8 victory.

It was McKenzie’s first game as head coach of the Warriors.

“It felt great,” he said.

He took over as the interim for the rest of the season after former coach Christopher Simpson resigned earlier this week.

It was Simpson at the helm in September, when Trinity beat the Lakers 50-12. A second game between the two schools was scheduled due to cancellations of other games.

The second time around, Trinity’s Levi Teets led the way by accouting for four touchdowns in four different ways.

The senior rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown and he also caught a 27-yard scoring pass.

He wasn’t finished, as Teets also added a 20-yard interception return and then threw a 21-yard scoring pass to cap the night.

“Four touchdowns in four different ways, that’s pretty amazing,” McKenzie said.

Trinity (4-1) also got a lot of help on defense, which forced seven turnovers.

“Our kids are a little tired. We were sluggish tonight,” McKenzie said. “The defense stepped up and really did its job.”

The Warriors will play two games next week, due to postponing a game because of sickness.

Trinity will travel to Calhoun County at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, before hosting St. John’s (Md.) Prep at 7 p.m. Saturday.
