The nonprofit organization Get Moving! announced the 2022 edition of its Mini Day of Play will be Oct. 8 at The Shack Neighborhood House.
The Shack will host the event from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at its 537 Blue Horizon Drive location.
This annual event provides children in West Virginia an opportunity to go out, play, exercise and meet current athletes, all in a bid to promote healthy lifestyles.
Get Moving! came to life as a result of a growing concern about the high rate of obesity among children in West Virginia and started a movement to combat obesity in children of the Mountain State.
The president and founder of the nonprofit organization, Dr. Elizabeth Oppe, encouraged parents to help their children adopt healthy practices through exercising, healthy eating and mindfulness as they become the best version of themselves.
“Children have the opportunity to promote physical activities and healthy lifestyles within their families,” Oppe said. “They can make such a positive impact upon their households.”
Since 2014, Get Moving! has actively pursued its mission through its annual Day of Play event, simple and healthy food recipes, as well as online guides for exercise and workouts.
Past Get Moving! events have enjoyed the support from former NFL stars and West Virginia student volunteers attending the events and encouraging parents and children to embrace the culture of exercise and eating right.
