Debora “Debbie” Moore, 70, of Blacksville, passed away following a short illness on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
She was born Jan. 22, 1952, in Altoona, Pa., the daughter of the late Dorothy Jean Bice.
Miss Deb was a retired parent-teacher coordinator and bus aide for Mason Dixon Elementary School in Blacksville for 23 years. She greeted many children throughout her years at Mason Dixon and they grew to become her kids. She was a second hand to many of the teachers from aiding in classrooms to fixing the copiers, printers and fax machines. She wore many hats during her time at Mason Dixon. She had many friends who touched her life dearly. She could always be found with her trusty sidekick, Miss Sandy, and they shared many things in common — their birthday, their last name, they both had a John in their lives and twin grandchildren.
She will always be remembered as a one-of-a-kind lady, always with a smile, crazy hats, kind heart, spunk, joy and a bright personality.
She was also an avid bowler, bringing smiles to so many friends over the years. She participated in bowling tournaments, Moose trips and one time even appearing on television with her husband in “Bowling for Dollars.”
Before she became known as Miss Deb, she was also known as The Rotten Little Kid during her time she worked at the Y Lounge. She loved her music and could not hear music without dancing. She was also known for her hats, rarely being seen without one. Crazy hats, decorated hats and hats decked out for the holidays were all a part of her wardrobe. She was also a huge fan of the WVU Mountaineers.
Surviving is her one son, John Moore and his wife Sherry, of Morgantown; two daughters, Wendy Vankirk and husband Jim, of Morgantown; and Brenda Hallett and George Lancaster, of Morgantown; brothers, Ted Bice, of Morgantown, Jeff Bice, of Texas, Michael Bice and his wife Sherry, of South Dakota, David Bice and wife Carol, of Morgantown, and Joseph Bice and his wife Samantha, of Kingwood; and sisters, Patti Bice, of Morgantown, Tina Brewer, of Blacksville, and Penny Bice of Morgantown; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Also, a special friend, Kirk, who brought joy to her heart. She loved Kirk and Kirk loved his Miss Deb.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Harry Eugene Moore; one grandchild, Drew Zeni; and one sister, Susan Carol Roupe.
In abiding by her wishes, she will be cremated. There will be a celebration of life to be scheduled later which will be announced. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home.
