Danny Lynn Huffman Sr., 75, of Kingwood, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, at Preston Memorial Hospital with family by his side. He was born on Oct. 19, 1946, in Grafton, son of the late Charles Lewis and Thelma Gertrude (Shahan) Huffman.
Danny was a faithful, hard-working husband and provider, a solid, just and protective father, a proud and supportive grandfather and a loyal, honest and genuine coworker and friend. Danny graduated from Fellowsville High School with the class of 1964 and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at Blackville #2 Mine as a foreman and retired with 35 years of service. He participated in hundreds of military funerals with the Taylor County Honor Guard and was a member of the Grafton VFW Post# 3081.
Danny was a member of the Brighter Day Church in Denver and loved helping with the church Food Pantry. He enjoyed golfing with his friends, deer hunting at Delmer’s farm and eating at Jerry’s Restaurant. He loved shopping for cars, attending car shows, working on his farm, collecting coins, going to flea markets and spending time with his children, his grandchildren and his cats.
Danny is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Karen Sue (Harvey) Huffman; one son, Danny Lynn Huffman Jr. and Lori, of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Heather Marie Henson and Ronnie, of Shepherdsville, Ky.; six grandchildren, Collin Wise Huffman, Isabella Kay Huffman, Ty Daniel Huffman, Chloe Mae Huffman, Kendall Burton Henson and Tristan James Henson; one sister, Lana Rae Culver, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; four sisters-in-law, Sandra “Katie” Jennings and Randel, of Marquess, Rose Mary McNeill and David, of Newburg, Paula Johnson and Roy, of Morgantown, and Saundra Harvey, of Morgantown; one brother-in-law, John Franklin Harvey and Anita, of Marquess; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Franklin “Junior” Dewey Harvey Jr. and Nola “Susie” Marie Harvey; and two brothers-in-law, Michael Harvey and Edward Culver.
The family appreciates the services provided by Amedisys Hospice, especially the special care from Nurses Karen and James, a friend, Robin and all the love and attention from our church family, close friend and coworker, Dave Bolyard, sister and brother-in-law, Katie and Randy Jennings, and all the other family, friends and neighbors who helped Danny live a safe, comfortable, full life.
Family and friends will be received at the Brighter Day Church, Denver, from 3 p.m. until the time of his celebration of life service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, with Pastors Roger and Cheryl Harris officiating. Graveside Service will be at the West Virginia National Cemetery, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, with military honors being accorded by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the U.S. Army National Guard of Camp Dawson. Family and friends will be meeting at Brighter Day Church at noon on Friday, Sept. 9, to go in procession to the National Cemetery.
