Black Heritage fest set for Sept. 9-11 in Clarksburg

The West Virginia Black Heritage Festival is planned for Sept. 9-11 in Clarksburg.

Festivities include a Youth Block Party, the Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament, a basketball Free Shot contest, concerts and worship service.

The block party will kick off activities at 5 p.m. Sept. 9 at Jackson Square, Pike Street. This is free and open to the public.

There will be a backpack giveaway, bouncy house, arts and crafts, games and face-painting, free eye exams and more.

The 3-on-3 Free Shot basketball tournament will also begin at 5 p.m. Sept. 9. Under 18 entries will be free. Adult teams will be $20 per athlete. Preregister at YoungVisionsAthletics on Facebook or contact youngvisionsathletics@gmail.com.

The golf tournament also is scheduled for Sept. 9. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at the Bel Meadow Country Club in Mt. Clare. The shotgun start begins at 9 a.m. Entry is $75 per golfer or $250 per four-person team.

The West Virginia Black Heritage Festival opening ceremonies start at 1 p.m. Sept. 10 at Jackson Square, where the king and queen will be crowned.

Performances will be at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Main Street. Lady D. will kickoff the music at 2 p.m., followed by Byron Cooper at 3 p.m. Funk Yard X will perform at 5 p.m., Shades of Soul at 7 p.m. and Heat Wave at 8.

The Sept. 11 Praise Worship will be from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Main Street. The speaker will be Erika Cox and performing will be Dr. Nia Nunn, Voices of Praise, Order My Steps Praise Ministry, Macedonia Men’s Choir, Phyllis & Jeremy Thomas and Vincent Grantham.
