MORGANTOWN — According to University High football coach John Kelley, UHS tight end/linebacker Noah Braham did not break his ankle Friday night.
“The X-rays were negative,” Kelley said. “That’s the good news so far.”
The bad news? It appears Braham may have suffered a high ankle sprain instead, which could mean a substantial amount of time missed this season.
Braham, a senior who is committed to WVU for next season, was injured in the second quarter of the Hawks’ 16-14 victory against John Marshall.
Lining up as a fullback on a power running play near the goal line, Braham ran into the line as a lead blocker and immediately became part of a pileup.
He did not get back up after the play and eventually had to be helped off the field. At halftime, his left leg was wrapped in a medical boot and he did not return to the game.
Kelley said Braham’s family — he is the son of former WVU All-American Rich Braham — was looking to get a second opinion from an orthopedist, before any decisions are made about the rest of the season.
“High ankle sprains can mean about five weeks, but that’s better than the entire season,” Kelley said. “The family is looking to get more information from a specialist, so we’ll just have to wait and see what is said.”
The Hawks (1-0) travel to Parkersburg South on Friday for their second game of the season.
