
Freeman Junior Murray, 78, of York Run Road, Newburg, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, Aug. 26, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on Sept. 25, 1943, in Reedsville, son of the late Freeman C. Murray and G. Ruth Swagger Murray.
Freeman Jr. was a member of Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church. He graduated from Fellowsville High School, Class of 1962. Freeman started his working career at Preston Poultry and Feed, then Sterling Faucet Factory. He later drove tractor-trailer for Sterling. His next employment was electrical contractors. He then became a coal miner as a roof bolter and outside equipment operator. Freeman finished his working career for Labors Local #379 and retired in 1998.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and going on vacation. Freeman loved Gospel and Country Music. One of his favorite hobbies was fixing-up classic cars. He was well known for his sense of humor and gift of gab. He rarely went anywhere that someone didn’t know him and holler, “Hey Freeman!”
Freeman is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Darleen (Bolyard) Murray; one son, Gregg S. Murray and Donna, of Newburg; one daughter, Kimberly Murray and Chris Jennings, of Newburg; two granddaughters, Sabra Quinn, of Morgantown and Mariah Murray and Travis Lucas, of Newark, Del.; two sisters, Patty Poling and Bill, of Marquess, and Brenda Larew and Jim, of Thornton; one brother, Teddy Murray, of Thornton; three sisters-in-law, Beverly Murray, of Grafton, and Ethel Mae Murray, of Tunnelton, and Debbie Murray, of Marquess; one brother-in-law, Terry Shipp; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Freeman was preceded in death by one daughter, Stephanie Jane Murray in 2013; four brothers, Edward Murray, Robert “Bob” Murray, Randy Murray and Charles Franklin Murray and Yvonne; and one sister, Debbie Shipp.
Family will receive friends at Bolyard Funeral Home from 2-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, and from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31, with Pastor David Murray officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery. Bolyard Funeral Home is honored to serve the Murray family.
