Deborah “Deby” Elaine Harper, 71, of Masontown, passed away at her home on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022.
Deby was born in St. Albans on March 30, 1951, to the late Homer and Christina Cox.
Deby worked at Mon General Hospital for 15 years as a critical care nurse. She loved her horses and enjoyed showing them early in life and for the last 20 years got love from raising and loving our wolves and cats. Her baby for 20 years was Motiza, her wolf. They will miss her, but she will see them again.
Deby was a charter member of the National Museum of the American Indians in Washington, D.C., and Okleueha NAC, Okleueha Native American Church — her name was “Spirit Woman” (Wolf of the North). She also spoke some of her native language.
Deby is survived by her husband, Richard G. Harper; brothers, Thomas Cox (Jeannie) of New Manchester, and Robert Cox (Carolyn) of Roanoke, Va.; nieces: Allina Crockett (Kevin) of Fairmont, America Ridgeway (Andrew) of Roanoke, Va., and Hailey Cooper (Jordan) of Roanoke, Va.; great-nieces and nephews,: Hayes Cooper, Conrad, Grayson, and Scarlett Crockett and Lillian Newman; cousins, Bobby Markham (Angel) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Larry Markham (Judy) of Lexington, Ky.; stepdaughter, Dina Brewer (Roy) of Point Marion, Pa; stepson, Robert Harper of Raleigh, N.C.; and stepgranddaughter, Addison Harper.
McCulla Funeral Home is providing cremation service. A committal service will take place at the West Virginia National Cemetery, on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Following the service, inurnment will take place at the West Virginia National Cemetery.
