A Sunday afternoon single-vehicle crash near the 143 mile marker on Interstate 79, near the Goshen Road exit, proved fatal for the driver, according to a Monday press release.
According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at about 1:30 p.m., where Charles Delaney, 68, of St. Albans, was pronounced dead after he seemingly lost control of the vehicle.
Investigators are still working to determine what may have caused Delaney to lose control, sheriff’s department officials said, but it appeared that he swerved across both southbound lanes multiple times before colliding with a rock on the side of the roadway.
In addition to Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, an accident reconstructionist from Granville Police Department, Mon EMS, Triune-Halleck VFD, Clinton District VFD, and Marion County EMS responded to the accident.
