Mon district, BOE terminates teacher’s employment

A University High School teacher has been fired by the district.

The decision to terminate Travis Wells, who taught science at the school on Bakers Ridge Road, came after a personnel hearing that lasted nearly four hours during Tuesday night’s meeting of the Monongalia County Board of Education.

No other details were given, and the hearing was held behind closed doors in executive session.

“This is an ongoing process, and I have been advised to decline comment at this time,” Wells told The Dominion Post.

The district said the same.

“We aren’t able to comment, out of respect to the process and the privacy of all parties involved,” Superintendent Eddie Campbell Jr., said.

Meanwhile, a number of people turned out for the meeting at the board offices in Sabraton in support of Wells.

Wells’ class, “The Teenage Guide to Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse,” with its mix of comedy and hard science, was a popular offering during last year’s Summer Avalanche learning enrichment camp.
