Kick off to the Fair: Parade Marshal Bob Pirner heads up High St. celebration

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Monongalia County Fair marched back into the proceedings Monday evening with a grand parade down High Street.

Local disabilities advocate Bob Pirner was parade marshal.

The 2022 edition of the fair now moves to Mylan Park for a full line-up of events through Saturday.

That includes the Queen, Teen and Junior Miss pageants, along with the pageants for Little Miss and Little Mister.

Fairgoers who like to rev it up will enjoy dirt drags, a “Tough Truck” challenge, demolition derby and more.

Look for a fully populated midway with all your favorites, plus traditional fair activities such as quilting and photo contests, 4-H exhibits, a canine variety show and cornhole tournaments.

Rick K. & The Allnighters will also perform, along with Ryan Cain and the Ables.

Tickets are $10 per person today through Friday and $15 on Saturday and those prices include all events and rides at the fair. Visit the Mon Fair’s Facebook page or www.moncountyfair.org for the full schedule and other particulars.

Meanwhile, AccuWeather says to keep an eye (and umbrella) out for the rain. Today’s forecast calls for humid conditions and a high of 86 — to go with the possibility of heavy thunderstorms.

Rain is also possible Wednesday and Thursday, with predicted highs in the 70s and 80s both days, the forecaster said.

AccuWeather is calling for mostly sunny skies and thermometer readings in the 70s Friday and Saturday, for the fair’s conclusion.
