Evelyn Welch

Evelyn Louise Welch, 86, of Kingwood, peacefully passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at her home surrounded by family who dearly loved her.

Evelyn was born on May 14, 1936, in Albright and was the daughter of the late Omer and Violet Everly Welch.

Evelyn, known for her spunk and humor, was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a creative talent, loved decorating, flower gardens and had an extremely green thumb (coax life from a stick … kid you not).

Evelyn was also a notable artist, who enjoyed painting sceneries such as seascapes, sailing ships, farming fields, wildlife and majestic mountains. In fact, after much coaxing, Evelyn reluctantly entered one of her paintings into the 1996 Preston County Buckwheat Festival, where she was pleasantly surprised to receive first prize for her Rocky Mountains with Ducks on the Lake painting.

In addition to her artistry, Evelyn was also an excellent cook, with all who came to her table requesting “seconds.” They also left full and satisfied. Those who knew her, knows she had the gift of hospitality.

Evelyn was a graduate of Forman Gate School of Albright and was called and known as the Coalick Queen in her day. She was also an excellent homemaker, supportive military wife and full time mother.

Evelyn was the mother of two children and is survived by her daughter, Donna Jefferys, of Kingwood; one brother, Harold Welch and wife Leah Ruth, of Kingwood; five grandchildren and their spouses: Angela Foringer and husband Kenneth, of Evans Georgia, Rachel Henning and husband Jesse, of Durham N.C., David Jefferys and wife Jisselle, of Columbia Md., Steven Jefferys and wife Nicole, of Portsmouth Va., and Adam Jefferys, of Newport News Va.; and four great-grandchildren, William Foringer, Elena Henning and Gavin and Leia Jefferys.

In addition to her parents and brother, Glen Welch, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald J. Jefferys, and Willis (Hugh) Welch; and her son, Bruce A. Jefferys.

Evelyn’s love, wit, spunk and sense of humor will forever be remembered with a smile and a chuckle by those who cared for and loved her.

Evelyn Welch is loved and will be missed, but never forgotten.

Mom, until we are reunited in heaven, enjoy your family reunions and the embrace of our savior, Jesus Christ, who loves you dearly.

Friends may call at the Kingwood Funeral Home and Crematory, 295 South Price St. on Friday, July 15. Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, July 16 with Pastor John Shaffer officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Kingwood.
