Robert Ray “Bob” Pyles Sr., 85, of Masontown, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022, at home surrounded by family.
He was born in Newburg, on May 19, 1937, a son of the late Ray and Kathryn Adeline (Koch) Pyles. Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to hunt and fish. Bob enjoyed camping, sports and going to the casino. He loved making new friends and helping others.
Bob helped organize the second ambulance service in Preston County, The Tunnelton Community Ambulance Service, in 1970. He served as president from 1970-1975. Bob was a high school basketball referee, past member of the Tunnelton VFD and Tunnelton Lions Club. He was also the president of the Bull Run Community Association. Bob worked for Pittsburgh Valve, Fibair, Bausch & Lomb and Field Funeral Home.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Ruth Ann (Jenkins) Pyles; two sons, Robert R. Pyles Jr. and wife Charlene, of Newburg, and Timothy J. Pyles and wife Kristin, of Tennessee; two daughters, Sherrie S. Wawrowski and husband Timothy, of Ohio, and Alicia L. Smerka and husband John, of Masontown; nine grandchildren, Avery Shaffer, Destinee, Emily, Brandon, and Jennifer Pyles, Danielle Williams and Christina, Tyler and Timothy Wawrowski; and many great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, and from noon until the 1 p.m. service on Friday, July 15, with Pastor A.C. Mann officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Masontown.
