Barbara Jean Hobday, 83, passed away peacefully after her long battle with Alzheimer’s on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Sundale Nursing Home. Barbara was born in Morgantown, on Oct. 31, 1938, the daughter of the late Lorane Ellsworth Teets and Dorothy Edna (Rushford) Teets.
Barbara was a homemaker and very involved with her children’s and grandchildren’s lives and activities; she was always their biggest cheerleader. As her children grew, she worked at St. Francis Elementary as a reading interventionist and later as a kindergarten aide for Monongalia County Schools. She dedicated much of her time as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother and volunteered countless hours in the public school system. She was a long-standing, devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Barbara was always willing to assist others and forever offered her home and meals to anyone who stopped by.
In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, card making, square dancing (Western Stars), yard sales and antiquing and also loved going to Mountaineer basketball games.
Barbara is survived by two children, Joyce DeLawder and husband John, of Morgantown, and Jeff Hobday and his wife Julie Shultz, of Sumter, S.C.; four grandchildren, Amy DeLawder, Abby White, Jared DeLawder and Mallory Hobday; great-grandchildren, Owen, Maisy and Reese White; and sister, Patti Sutherland.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John Mark Hobday.
