Louise Miller

Louise S. Miller, 100, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2022, in Mobile, Ala. She was the daughter of Archibald T. and Virginia M. Shaw. She was a long-time resident of Kingwood. In her later years, she resided in Mobile, Ala. Louise met her future husband, E. Scott Miller, during the Buckwheat Festival in 1938, when they were the first Queen Ceres and King Buckwheat. They married in 1945 and had two daughters, Mary Elizabeth “Diddy” and Martha Sue “Marcy.”

Louise was a registered nurse with a passion for caring for others. She completed her nursing studies at Church Home and Hospital, in Baltimore, with practicum at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her nursing career included working for the private practices of Dr. Watson, Dr. John Lehman and Dr. Delroy Davis and later for Preston Memorial Hospital (PMH). After retiring from PMH, she continued to provide care to Preston County residents as a nurse for Hospice.

She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kingwood. She served as a member of the Session and Women’s Association, assisted with summer Bible school and was active in support of committees and many other church projects.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Scott, and two sisters, Margaret Smith and Susan Harvey. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Butler (Bob), of Portage, Mich., and Marcy Matherne, of Mobile, Ala.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Grunder and Sandra Butler-Davis (Scott); three great-grandchildren, Lilyana Davis, Samuel Davis and Ava Grunder; six nieces and nephews, Sharon Forman (Bill), Scott Harvey (Tina), Mary Carson (Don), Marion Feather, Marvin Miller (Lana) and Max Miller (Carol); and a cousin, Carol Ann Miller (Terry).

Friends are invited to share their memories of Louise with her family during visitation at Kingwood Funeral Home, located at 295 S. Price St., from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 8, with the Rev. David Spence. Interment will follow the service at Maplewood Cemetery in Kingwood.
