The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the man who died in a July 4 drowning at Cheat Lake.
The victim has been identified as Thomas Burt, 37, of Martins Ferry, Ohio.
According to a Tuesday press release, deputies were dispatched at about 1:40 p.m. to the boat launch on Mont Chateau Road for a reported drowning at Cheat Lake.
Sheriff’s department officials were able to confirm the victim had jumped into the water from the Ices Ferry Bridge, but have not released any additional information at this time.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Morgantown City Fire Department, Cheat Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Morgantown Dive Team, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and Mon EMS.
