Sayre to lead fundraising and marketing teams at WVU Medicine Children’s

WVU MEDICINE

Marisa Sayre, manager of marketing of WVU Medicine Children’s, will begin leading both the marketing and fundraising activities of the hospital through a newly formed position that combines both responsibilities. As executive director of fundraising and marketing, Sayre will oversee WVU Medicine Children’s strategic marketing initiatives as well as its fundraising activities.

“For nearly two years, I’ve worked closely with Marisa and have been extremely impressed by both her strong leadership and strategic counsel,” Amy L. Bush, chief operating officer of WVU Medicine Children’s, said. “She is a perfect fit for this new position, and I am confident she will continue to perform and excel at an extremely high level.”

Sayre, who is from New Jersey, comes to this new role at a critical time: WVU Medicine Children’s will open a new, nine-story, 150-bed, full-service pediatric hospital in September, and significant efforts remain underway to raise private support for the new hospital and associated program improvements.

“I’m very excited that Marisa will be taking on this new and expanded role,” Jeff Hostetler, co-chair of the “Grow Children’s” capital campaign and long-time member of the WVU Medicine Children’s Leadership Council, said. “She is an extremely talented leader who will do an outstanding job in this new and expanded role.”

Through the WVU Health System’s continued partnership with the WVU Foundation, this role will further advance the mission of the new Children’s Hospital by maximizing charitable support of its programs.

“Having worked with Marisa on several children’s hospital fundraising events, I have personally witnessed her amazing talents and her strong efforts to support and grow our amazing new children’s hospital,” Steve Antoline, co-chair of the “Grow Children’s capital campaign, said. “She is the perfect person for this position.”

“We are excited to have Marisa step into this new and expanded role to provide critical leadership at a critical time as we enter the final stretch to open the new children’s hospital,” B.J. Davisson, executive vice president and chief development officer of the WVU Foundation, said. “Marisa’s appointment further strengthens our partnership with the WVU Health System and its children’s hospital.”

Sayre first came to WVU Medicine in 2019 to serve as the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute’s senior marketing strategist. The following year, she was promoted to manager of marketing of WVU Medicine Children’s. Before coming to WVU Medicine, Sayre was a broadcast journalist with Nexstar Media Group for several years. She is a graduate of the West Virginia University Reed College of Media and was named to WV News and The State Journal’s “40 under 40” list, which honors young professionals throughout West Virginia.

“It is an extraordinary privilege to be a part of the WVU Medicine Children’s team. I’m grateful to Amy, Steve and Jeff, as well as hospital leadership, for giving me the opportunity to further serve the families of West Virginia and its surrounding areas,” Sayre said. “I look forward to continuing to tell the story of Children’s and building upon its success for years to come.”
