Sometimes two is better than one.
And that was certainly the case for West Virginia when it came to the Jackson household in Fairfield, Ohio with the current 2023 recruiting class.
The Mountaineers received a commitment from Jordan Jackson, the twin brother of current pledge Josiah following an impressive one-day camp performance Monday.
Jackson, 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, selected the Mountaineers over other offers from Purdue, Maryland and Duke, but had to do it the hard way. That’s because the dynamic athlete lined up primarily at running back last season and the coaching staff wanted to see his abilities in the defensive backfield.
“The coaches thought I did well and were surprised how well I did despite me coming in with that running back mentality. I had to switch the flip,” he said.
That led to the camp stop for Jackson who showcased speed, athleticism and length during the course of the event and earned his spot in the recruiting class.
Jackson had previously taken an official visit to Purdue but the pull of Morgantown proved to be too much for him when it came time to make his college choice.
The Rivals.com three-star prospect was no stranger to West Virginia as he had accompanied his twin brother on multiple visits to campus. He developed a strong connection with secondary coach ShaDon Brown as well as defensive coordinator Jordan Lesley throughout the process.
The decision was an easy one for Jackson who now will get to spend his college career in the same defensive back room as his twin brother. Last season he accounted for over 900 yards and 6 touchdowns while averaging over 9 yards per carry as a running back.
Jackson continues a June trend for the program which has seen six commitments since the calendar flipped over into the summer. That could grow as the program is playing host to 11 official visitors this weekend and is looking to add to that list.
The Mountaineers are now up to a dozen pledges in the 2023 recruiting class.
