
Kenneth Raymond Swanger Sr., 95, passed peacefully on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
Kenneth was born in Hildebrand, on Sept. 6, 1926, the son of William Ross and Elizabeth Bell Swanger.
Kenneth served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years and was honorably discharged in 1970.
He held memberships in the American Legion and the Fleet Reserve Association.
He completed his graduate equivalency degree while in the service. He returned to civilian employment at WVU, where he retired as a supervisor after 20 years. He was a member of The River Church in Westover.
He is survived by a daughter, Donna Rae Hovatter; son, Kenneth R. Swanger Jr., both of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Phillip Davis, Renee Davis, Loria Morris, Amy Swanger, Ben Hovatter and Donna Lynn Hovatter; eight great-grandchildren, Evan, Abby, Adam Davis, Emily, Lisa Morris, Brian, Garrett, and Sara Mayle; four great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Gilliland, of Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marian Louise Carpenter Swanger; one sister, Margaret Johnson; and one brother, Robert L. Clark.
The family will receive friends at the Fred Jenkins Funeral Home, from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, June 6, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7. He will be laid to rest beside his wife with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy, Mid-Atlantic Region and the Mon County Honor Guard VFW Posts 548 & 9916.
