Jennifer Lea Cress, 49, of Independence, completed her earthly journey on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, while surrounded by family.
She was born on March 8, 1973, to the Rev. Dr. Gary Helms and Connie Lea (Catlett) Helms. She attended West Virginia University and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology. From there, she worked in several labs around the state, as well as various places throughout the country. Helping people was an important part of her life. She loved her family tremendously.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Scott Cress; her daughter, Hailea Cress, her fiancé Hunter Dewitt and their son, Lane Allen Dewitt; her son, Elijah Cress and his girlfriend, Gabby Wolfe; her parents, Gary and Connie Helms; her brother, Chip and wife Julie Helms; several nieces; and one nephew.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 23, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. time of service on Tuesday, May 24, with Pastor Marshall Woods officiating. To honor Jennifer’s wishes, cremation services will be provided.
The family would like to thank those who continuously prayed for her and provided care and comfort during this journey. They would also like to thank WV Caring, who provided her at-home care for the last several weeks.
