John Vincent Petrich, 74, of Morgantown, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side and family nearby surrounded by the presence of God and the great cloud of witnesses on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. He was born April 25, 1948, in Morgantown, a son of the late Joseph and Emily (McCartney) Petrich.
John was a member of LIFE United Methodist Church in Fairmont. He served in the United States Navy for four years and in the Navy Reserves for five years. He retired as a welder and pipefitter from General Electric after approximately 34 years of service and was a lifelong farmer. He was a student of science and history and was an avid hunter and fisherman. John was a kind, sweet and gentle man.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Peggy Scharff Petrich; siblings, Carolyn Smith and her husband Bill, Joe Petrich and Alice Radabaugh and her husband Jim; niece and nephew, Nikki Samoda and her husband Ken and Troy Smith; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Sweany and her husband Ray, Phyllis Weyand and her husband Ken and Keith Scharff. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 16, and again from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17th with the Rev. Larry Buckland officiating. Interment will follow at Summers Cemetery off Halleck Road in Morgantown. Military funeral flag folding services will be conducted at the graveside by the United States Navy.
