Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance West Virginia raising mental health awareness throughout the month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance West Virginia has a lot going on to raise awareness and provide help by letting others know, “We’ve been there. We can help.”

The alliance announced the opening of its new statewide headquarters at the Mountaineer Mall, where individuals can find information about mood disorders as well as information on support groups.

The alliance is also sponsoring a Mental Health Awareness Month Poster Contest open to area students in grades 9-12.

Posters should focus on increasing awareness of taking care of your mental health, the importance of taking care of yourself, taking care of your loved ones and talking about mental health.

Posters should be made on a flat surface, no larger than a standard-sized poster.

Art will be judged on best theme depiction and creativity.

The top three winners will have a picture of their poster highlighted in The Dominion Post and receive a gift card for art supplies.

Posters are due by May 20 at the West Virginia office in Mountaineer Mall.

They can be dropped off between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. any Tuesday through Saturday through May 20.

Artist’s name and contact info must be on the back of the poster.

Arrangements must be made to pick up the artwork after judging on May 21, if the artwork is wanted back.

Judging will be held at the DBSA WV Open House, set for 11 a.m. May 21.
