MORGANTOWN — “We have the public comment section and it really works,” Monongalia County Commissioner Jeff Arnett said Wednesday, referencing concerns raised last week by a resident of Master Graphics Road.
Elaine Panico said she was speaking for herself and her neighbors on Master Graphics Road when she told the commission that trucks servicing the Mountaintop Beverage construction site in the expanded portion of the Morgantown Industrial Park were creating a dangerous situation, particularly regarding children and school buses
The dead-end road is currently the only way to access the new, upper portion of the park property.
Arnett said Commissioner Sean Sikora reached out to contractor March-Westin and developer Enrout Properties, and a plan was in place within 48 hours of Panico’s comments.
Sikora explained that March-Westin will dispatch flaggers at the intersection of Master Graphics and River roads during bus pick-up and drop-off times for the remainder of the school year.
“In addition, I talked to the sheriff’s department and they have a grant which looks at areas that have concerns regarding bus safety, and they put that on their list, so they’ll regularly patrol it,” Sikora said, adding that most of the truck traffic should be routed through the industrial park before school starts in the fall.
“So when we know about the problems, when citizens tell us about them, we take action where we can,” Arnett said.
