REEDSVILLE — Where can you have dinner, watch a free movie, and admire an 1818 Burl wood mahogany couch that once belonged to General George S. Patton Jr.? Only at the Victorian Room, located at 224 S. Robert Stone Way in the old Reedsville school.
Owner Rodney Wolfe said his uncle Carl Wolfe served under General Patton during World War II. Carl passed away in March 2020 at the age of 96. He served in campaigns in Normandy, northern France, and Germany. There are photos of Carl as well as one of Patton displayed with the couch.
According to the National WWII Museum, Patton was one of America’s greatest battlefield commanders. “He often led from the front, and he almost always delivered victory. His swift conquest of Sicily, his race across France, his relief of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, and his drive into Germany destroyed German armies, saved American lives, and captured the collective imagination of the American public,” the museum’s site reads.
Patton’s couch is not the only interesting item that graces the room. Among the numerous antiques are a working 1925-26 phonograph, a 1901 ice box in pristine condition, antique photographs, and others too numerous to list.
“Lisa (Uphold) and I had most of the antique furniture in the room,” Wolfe said. “I gathered some of the stuff over the past 16 years as I traveled around the country.”
Wolfe opened his first business, Old School Pizzeria, in 2019 in the school. He said he purchased the old school because it held special meaning for him.
“The Victorian Room was once my third grade classroom,” he said. “There is a lot of local history here.”
Wolfe said he wanted to offer a family-friendly environment, so of the movies that will be shown can be enjoyed by parents and children. He said with the opening of the Victorian Room the menu will expand.
“We want to add homemade pies, fried dough, salads, spaghetti and meat balls, ham and pepperoni rolls, homemade soups, and a variety of subs,” Wolfe said. “When the weather improves, for the weekends we want to have grilled hamburgers, steak, and chicken dinner with sides.”
He said the Victorian Room provides table space for 32 people and theater seats will give room for
14 more. The movies are to be shown on a special painted wall.
The Victorian room can be rented for company parties and nonprofit meetings. Parties for kids are held in the pizzeria.
“We’re taking it one step at a time. We’re working toward a community center and working with an artist to have a concert this summer,” he said.
The Old School Pizzeria is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday., 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday, and closed Monday. The free movie in the Victorian Room is at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
