MORGANTOWN — Some 60,000 registered voters in Monongalia County have been checked and nearly 22,000 letters have been mailed.
“We have completed our portion of the redistricting,” Monongalia County Clerk Carye Blaney explained during Wednesday’s meeting of the Monongalia County Commission.
“We finished mailing our notices to everyone who was affected by the redistricting process, and those voters whose precinct locations are different than where they voted in November of 2020.”
Blaney said the months-long process involved her entire staff.
“I can’t say enough about everybody in our office in completing this project, meeting all of our deadlines and making sure the voters have all the information they need as we move forward with the election,” she said.
In particular, she said, the Elections and Voter Registration staff of Scott Iles, Cal Shamberger and Taylor Sovastian stepped up to the challenge.
“They really are the best of the best that we have working in the industry and they’ve done a great job,” she said.
In other election news, the clerk’s office still needs poll workers for the May 10 primary election.
“We have no alternates at this point and we get people who call in and cancel daily,” Blaney said, noting anyone interested can contact the clerk’s office at 304-291-7230.
Compensation for poll workers has been increased to $272, including Election Day ($222) and training ($50).
Early voting will begin Wednesday and run through May 7 at the county’s election center in the Mountaineer Mall, as well as Mason-Dixon Historical Park, Westover’s VFW Post 9916 and the former Urse Dodge location in Pierpont Landing. The polls will be open from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
