Georgia transfer quarterback JT Daniels visits WVU

West Virginia has three quarterbacks battling it out this spring for the right to earn the starting job, but the program might not be done adding at the position.

That’s because Georgia transfer quarterback JT Daniels will be on campus this weekend for an official visit. The trip was scheduled to begin Friday night and go through the weekend allowing the signal caller to get a complete view of the program.

It’s the third such visit for Daniels who previously made trips to Oregon State and Missouri.

Those are the three schools that are vying for the services of the former Rivals.com five-star prospect who is one of the most highly regarded players in the transfer portal this cycle.

Daniels, 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, is a veteran quarterback that has four years of experience during his time between Georgia and USC. The California native began his career with the Trojans where he tossed for 2,672 yards with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions as a true freshman.

There is an obvious connection with new WVU offensive coordinator Graham Harrell formerly coaching Daniels for a season, although that was shortened to just a single game due to injuries.

Daniels then elected to transfer to Georgia, where he started 7 games and appeared in a total of 10 but injuries again were the issue that limited him. Over his time with the Bulldogs, Daniels threw for 1,953 yards with 17 touchdowns and 5 interceptions while completing 69-percent of his passes.

Over his 21-game career, Daniels has thrown for over 4,000 yards with 36 touchdowns, which would be an obvious improvement over what the Mountaineers currently have on the roster. Between the three quarterbacks currently competing in the spring, they’ve thrown a total of 32 passes in games.

Considering the need for a veteran arm that could help bridge to some of the younger players on the roster in the future, coupled with his experience and knowledge of Harrell’s system it makes for an intriguing fit for the Mountaineers for a variety of reasons.

The coaching staff stuck to their word to allow the current quarterbacks to battle things out in the spring, but Daniels could potentially arrive after he graduates in May and brings a lot of arm talent.

Daniels is the only quarterback that has been linked with WVU in the past several months and following his visit is expected to make a college decision between his three finalists.

He would have potentially two years remaining in his career and it will be interesting to see how things unfold here as the coaching staff looks to best allocate those remaining scholarships.

Experience matters and Daniels certainly brings a lot of that at the power five level.
