A fatal fire on Snake Hill Road Wednesday afternoon in Monongalia County has been determined as accidental in nature by state fire marshals.
Sharon L. Cale, 76, of Morgantown, died as a result of the fire at the home at 1741 Snake Hill Road. Brookhaven and Masontown volunteer fire departments responded to the fire at about11:45 a.m.
Prior to the firefighters arrival, family members and neighbors attempted to rescue Cale from the burning home but were unsuccessful.
Investigators determined the fire started because of faulty structure-related wiring.
Firefighters on scene were able to extinguish the flames in a matter of minutes; however, Cale was unable to escape the smoke and was found dead.
Masontown VFD Chief Dan Luzier said his department was first to arrive on scene, with two trucks and eight firefighters.
The department had the fire under control in about three minutes, according to Luzier.
