Springing into the spring season

BY CHRISTELLE TEMPLE

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like a brand new person when the sun comes out? It’s like you almost forget how beautiful it is when it’s sunny and 60 — with the trees and grass starting to look extra green, flowers beginning to blossom and fresh smells when you walk outside. The way the sun feels touching your skin that has been covered up all winter.

Spring! A time to reflect on winter and take on the upcoming season with something new, something refreshing and something for you to do and look forward to!

As most of us have heard, this changing season brings a lot of motivation. More time in the day after work, a chance to get outside before the sun goes down. We have aggressive spring cleaning and the strong desire to get outside.

Going into this new season, what do you want to bring to your own table? What are you going to do with more sunlight in the day and vitamin D in your body? Is it some desperately needed spring cleaning, a chance to change your studying scenery and go outside, a chance to spend more time with your kids and take them to the park, a rush to try new healthy recipes, or even to try a couple new habits that keep you outside longer like walking?

This spring, I hope everyone has an extra bounce in their step and an even bigger smile on their face when they try something new and refreshing to match the season. It is important to get out and catch some rays — sunlight has been proven to give you more energy, and a more positive mindset. The sun releases a chemical in your brain called serotonin that helps aid in these physical and mental changes.

So set a new goal for this season. Something you’ve been pushing off, a habit you’ve been trying to quit or form, working hard on a project you have, a class you’re in, or even trying something out of your comfort zone anywhere from food to work outs.
