MORGANTOWN — It appears as if the lingering issues that have delayed the Morgantown Utility Board’s remediation work in White Park have been resolved.
On Wednesday, MUB announced a board of directors meeting for 10:30 a.m. Monday.
“The only item on the agenda is the White Park addendum to the licensing agreement,” MUB Spokesman Chris Dale said. “At that meeting the board is expected to approve the addendum.”
BOPARC will also hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday to take up the addendum before it goes before Morgantown City Council on Tuesday.
The White Park issue dates back to 2019, when MUB marked a number of the park’s trees for removal in order to run a raw water pipeline through the park connecting its new emergency secondary water source, the George B. Fleagel Dam and Reservoir, to the utility’s water treatment plant off Don Knotts Boulevard.
Then after months of public input and negotiations, the city, BOPARC and MUB reached an agreement in November 2019 giving MUB access to the park with the understanding the utility would have to build a new trail through the park and plant two trees for each one removed.
While MUB completed its placement of the pipeline, none of the agreed upon remediation work has begun as disagreements have since arisen as to exactly what MUB is responsible for under that 2019 agreement.
According to Dale, MUB and the city plan to release additional information about the agreement on Monday.
