Wait a second.
Did she just say “cupcakes” and “beer” — in the same sentence?
“Sure did,” replied Janet Williams, who was doing the talking. “You’ll love it.”
That’s because these aren’t just any cupcakes: They’re offerings from The Cupcakerie, the Morgantown bakery she co-founded 10 years ago. The Cupcakerie is where you go when you’re looking for something delightfully different for that wedding or graduation party or tailgate.
It even has sugar-free, gluten-free and vegan offerings.
And the aforementioned frothy beverage isn’t your standard-issue lager, either. She’s referring to craft beers — and all they imply.
All of the above is why you’ll want to be at Mylan Park this coming Saturday. That’s when the 2022 edition of the West Virginia Cupcake & Craft Beer Fest commences at the Hazel and J.W. Ruby Community Center.
This is the fifth year for the event, which benefits Operation Welcome Home, the job-placement center at Mylan Park that helps military veterans transition back to civilian life.
“Operation Welcome Home does such great work,” Williams said. “We enjoy being associated with such a worthy cause for the community.”
Jamie Summerlin, meanwhile, said he’s glad the cupcake and craft beer fest is transitioning back to a genuine public event this year.
Last year and the year before, the proceedings were drive-through only, given the pandemic, said Summerlin, whose Guidon Creative event-planning firm is helping with the day.
“We’re excited, just being able to get together,” he said. “We think it’ll have a nice festival vibe.”
Music will be provided by the Morgantown High School Jazz Band and Ukulangley, a guitar and ukulele ensemble known for its fresh takes on America’s favorite songs.
Look for other artisans and food vendors, too, Summerlin said, along with those Cupcakerie creations and craft brewers from West Virginia, Maine and Georgia — just to name a few spots on the map.
You must be 21 and older to attend. Visit https://cupcakecraftbeer.com/ for times, ticket prices and other particulars.
While you’re at it, log on to http://thecupcakerie.com/ for The Cupcakerie’s menu, including its signature “Loco Cocoa” and “Red Carpet Red Velvet” cupcakes, which Williams says are customer favorites.
Both the bakery and the festival also have pages on Facebook.
The Cupcakerie also has some exclusive recipes tempered to festival perfection, with a touch of a craft beer in the batter and buttercream, which will be rolled out for the day.
If you’re still not convinced, she said, there’s only one delicious way to find out.
“We can’t wait to see you on Saturday.”
