KINGWOOD — Bingo hosted by the Kingwood Lions Club is returning in April.
Like so many other organizations, the COVID-19 pandemic restricted the club’s ability to fundraise.
“This pandemic and stuff kind of held us down to having fundraising,” said Gary Livengood, a club member on the publicity committee.
Also coming in April is a spaghetti dinner.
Bingo will be held April 2 at the Eagles Club in Kingwood, Livengood said. Doors open at 3 p.m. and games begin at 4 p.m. Tickets are $30. They are available at the door or in advance from the Kingwood Pharmacy or any club member. There will be refreshments for sale.
Livengood said bingo is usually pretty popular, and recently the firefighters hosted a game that sold out.
“And we hope we get ours sold out on April 2,” he said.
The club also hopes it can hold bingo regularly this year, Livengood said.
“Because, you know, a lot of people here, especially the elderly, are in the need of eyeglasses or the need of exams,” he said. “And so we make sure we purchased them for those people.”
Winners of bingo games will receive cash and the money raised will help to support the Lions Club’s mission — providing eye exams and eyeglasses for the visually impaired in the Kingwood area.
The club also does eye screening at schools and participates in other community activities.
On April 27, the Lions Club will hold a spaghetti dinner from 4-7 p.m. at the Preston County Inn. Livengood said the dinner will be prepared by Chef Jean Manuel Guillot, who provides the labor and space at no cost, except for the ingredients.
Guillot said he’s been involved with the Lions Club for about six years and the Preston County Inn hosts the club’s meetings twice a month.
Usually, the dinner, which includes a green salad with a choice of dressing, spaghetti and meat sauce, garlic bread, chocolate cake and a drink, attracts 170-200 people, Guillot said.
“It’s a really good fundraiser for the Lions because they do a lot of good things,” he said.
